Sorry my number was wrong...
Its not 80,000 , it is 129,973.. That is also as of March 2007..
look at link http://www.shusterman.com/pdf/permstats407.pdf
Are you sure about 80000 PERM?
I recall seeing somewhere that for the entire 2006, there were about 6000 PERMs.

Do you mean to say if one american actor/actress is frisked away at Mumbai or delhi airport, americans will go to street and burn the indian flag..? GOA will go after the indian security and customs...? I am not blaming anything about SRK. I am blaming common man, GOI....most importantly the OP who started the thread for SRK....well this is my last post here and I dont want to waste my time on a useless issue.
Common man is common man everywhere. Star worship is something that exists everywhere. be it sportsmen or movie stars - these people win hearts of people and thats what matters which is most important.
Now you are blaming people for worshipping him. Thats how things are.
Do you know how crazy soccer fans are in some countries?
Thats how things are my friend.

If you are making lot of money "more than $115". Please donate it to IV.
I get good monthly checks every month (more then $115), and they don't seem to bounce either. And good thing it increases. Don't need to google anything while I can get from credible sources.

lordoftherings, I doubt there is a country in the world that would fit all. I also doubt such a thing as "ideal immigration policy" exists. It is always good to have a job offer before you immigrate, but it's ultimately up to the immigrant to find out what it'll take to get on his/her feet in the new country.
After reading (and watching videos of) all those sob stories on notcanada.com and the like about doctors, nurses, engineers who can't get a job or have to study for years to get a Canadian license to practice, I wonder how much of a research those folks did prior to coming to Canada. If a medical occupation requires studying for additional time and taking exams, then you should have learned about it. If engineers of your specialty are not in high demand, you can figure it out by going through Canadian job postings and contacting employers. If you are not willing to look for a job elsewhere but Toronto, then it's your problem: perhaps in Calgary the opportunities are more readily available. I have a friend in Montreal who owns an IT recruitment company. He told me that they are sending IT folks from Ontario to Alberta, since Alberta unemployment rate for IT professionals is currently at 0.5%.
Bottom line is: research for yourself, ask different people, be flexible about where you want to live in the new country (hey, it's the country's demands you need to adjust to, not the other way around!) -- this will save you from many unpleasant surprises.

When did Srilankan Tamilians become Indian citizens??? also India should make sure that terrorists organisation like LTTE is wiped out from the face of earth weather its in Srilanka, Afganistan or Pakistan... gone are the days when these thugs where called 'freedom fighters' .. they are a terrorist organisation and should be treated in that manner.

Looks like lot of data is available for us to crunch on:
Labor certifications from 2000 to 2006
http://www.flcdatacenter.com/CasePerm.aspx
H1Bs issued from 2002 to 2006
http://www.flcdatacenter.com/CaseH1B.aspx
Hopefully using this data we can get some rough prediction on cutoff date movement. I'm going to spend the coming weekend on this.
There is a case status xls on the immigration portal for the backlog centers..That gives the total number of cases and status in both the labor backlog centers..
http://www.immigrationportal.com/showthread.php?t=161571&page=311
Look for Case_Status.xls by sktripuraneni
Apart from H1Bs the 245(i) filings in April 01 was a big source of labor certification filing.....I had found an estimate of number of the 245(i) cases some time back.... I shall try to find and post it again...Those 245(i) cases are wholesale coming into EB3 category....
Also not all H1Bs that came.. stayed in US.. some went back.. ..So we need to decide on a 'retention factor'....That is the percentage of approved h1Bs that are in GC process.. This we got to estimate somehow.....
Also we do not have a concrete source for per country distribution of the pending labor certifications in backlog centers....How to get that...?? That is the big issue.....
The H1B data is not sufficient to do that....

When you send any email, subject of the email matters.. If our subject is something like just immigration then I think they will just send automatic reply..
Let Mecaca work on getting good template/letter that we can use to send it to everybody..
Thanks.
I am sick and tired of cookie cutter responses from lawmakers staff. They have a standard template, that starts off with how concerned they are that the immigration system is broken, and their concern for American companies and workers and H-1b.
Enough of that freaking rubbish....
Lets send them letters, and specifically ask them
a) Do you condemn USCIS/DOS behavior, or do you commend it?
b) Do you sympathise with the plight of the employment based greencard applicants or not?
Finally, say that their response will be posted on online public forums so that it can be shared with other employment based greencard applicants.

Yes Job market in India is lot hotter than Canada ( IT ) . For that matter it is hotter than US also !!!! But Canada is a 1st world not 3rd world. Once you get that first job in Canada and settle down, there is not much difference between US and Canada in terms of earning and saving potential. There is a short term pain for that INITIAL FIRST job in CANADA, but it is worth it.
Do what you feel like ( moving to India vs Moving to canada) . Every place has its advanatges , In India, family is a big advantage. But quality of life especially social life really sucks! Canada, you have to consider weather ( it is COLLLLLDDDD in winter ). Do what is best for you
Also, you mentioned that India has 50 times more jobs than Canada. It is true but the competition is also HUGE . Every teenager now a days does programming course and every second person is an enginneer.
Good lUck

Sure with dead bobhead braincells of yours, nobody expects your self image to be high enough. Its not for wimps wearing zippers to the side like you. If you are man enough come and talk to me, and will see who gets handcuffed.
Talk to you about what? Amway?:D Whole point is we don't Amway guys chasing us with your cheesy lines or "brilliant" ideas.. So stop chasing us! Go rope in your relatives or any other insane person.
Why would i want to talk to a Amway guy when i am saying i don;t want to. If one comes to me and talks about Amway and does not understand the word "NO", "I AM NOT INTERESTED" and keeps chasing me he will face the law.
Now if you are a man/women/whatever and if you talk to me about AMWAY be ready to face the music!

Guys
On the sameline, I think no one is crazy about anything but material wealth for self.
Take my example, GOV of India spent lot of money on me so that I get a degree from IIT and here I am in USA salivating over GC dreams.
If I would be kicked out of USA, I may move to Canada, if I kicked out of Canada then to Australia and it would continue............
Aptly quoted fot this situation ( sorry for hindi language)
GC ne jalim Kutta banaa diya

To me: sinhalas and tamils look very similar.
This guy even goes further and says they are one and the same.
http://www.geocities.com/nallathambi_thevar/TamilSangam_Mauryas.htm
The present day Sinhala-Tamil conflict though originally a conflict between followers of Hinduism and the neo converts to Buddhism had morphed into a conflict between casteist Tamil Hindus and Tamil followers of ‘Organized Buddhism’ to a conflict between Tamils and Sinhala with the converted Buddhist shifting there allegiance to Pali/Sinhala.Organized Buddhism succeeded in separating Elangai from Tamilakam with its own language of Pali/Sinhala.

You are showing your contribution in all your postings. Don't have any shame???
your left hand should not know what your right hand is doing(giving)
It is typical for many Indians to put their name in cars (even here) and their contribution to temples to be anounced in public address system and put names on any things which they are donated.
You need to change the style, if you are in Rome, behave like Romas.
Answer the question directly...Dont give all these crap.

For the most part I think you're right. When I did my master's we were less than 10 white people in 200 in that major. Most of the indian people in there (about half of the 190) were H4s studying while the spouse came on H1 directly from India. And while I had to pay international tuition they got the in state resident tuition.
When I finished my degree might I add in the top 5 of those 200 I had a hard time finding a job while my colleagues each knew someone who helped them land a job a lot easier. I did ok for myself in the end and I have many Indian friends so don't take this as an anti-indian post. But there are definitely advantages to be part of a big group that is concentrated in an industry.
That being said, I don't think that we would be having this discussion in a normal world in which the GC numbers are enough. So stop the bickering and work towards increasing those numbers. That will make life easier for everybody.
The reason we have greater supply of workforce in IT from one specific country is not because of skills or talents. Almost every IT workers from ROW and China came to the US as a foreign student after TOEFL, GMAT, GRE, internship and only then landed a job in IT. Whereas the preponderence of IT workers from India came here through L1/B1/H1 sponsorship through bodyshops. Attending school, preparing for generalized tests requires time, money and patience. This is one big factor why the supply curve is skewed.

it's not the cost of getting an opinion that matters.
See my two prior posts on being pragmatic.
I see your point that if we are sure of not getting the result than why to take pain...
But are we really that squared and check mate for this issue?
