So how is google going to deal with this health care debacle ? We're issuing First Aid kits to all google employee's and going from there, hows Apple dealing with it? Well first off it'll be mandatory for everyone to wear jeans that are shorter in length, never know when an earth quake or flood is coming

    2) Who paid for the coffee? :D

Eric: Wow, Steve. Thanks for buying coffee. What is this?

Steve: It's a magical blend of coffee and flavorings that I special order. It's my own idea. Taste it.

Eric: Delicious! This is your idea? No kidding? It's amazing!

Steve: I'm glad you like it.

Eric: Someone could make a lot of money selling this.

Steve: We're going to start selling it in the Apple Stores next month.

    Eric: Really? What's in it?

Steve: Well, here, Eric. I can trust you. I'll write the list of the ingredients down for you.

    Eric: Oh good.

    Steve: And Eric?

    Eric: Yes, Steve.

Steve: If Google introduces their own special coffee blend next month, I'll chop your _____ off.

    Eric: Um...

Steve: I'm serious. Snip! Snip! Gone.

Eric: Uh... okay, then... um, never mind the list. Thanks anyway.

At this point price is the only thing that concerns me. Hoping apple keeps the same price point as Snow leopard and the upgrade coming in at $29. or $49 on DVD

$29, Not a chance. Probably at least $79.

Here's the gist of the problem: too generous state worker union pensions. I wouldn't be surprised that these pensions are extensively re-done to drastically cut its cost in order to reduce state budget deficits.

Yup, the collapse of the economy (and therefore many people's 401k's and other retirement nest eggs) coupled with the continuation of cutting taxes and giving massive tax cuts (often times almost identical in size to the cuts to social programs, hmm...) to corporations who don't pay their taxes in the first place had NOTHING to do with it.

People like this really make me angry.

In-app purchase can be disabled using parental control. This is stupid. I expect my tax to be used by my government to tackle bigger problems, oh maybe like jobs and the economy, not to appease some idiot "parents."

That's probably where you and most people misunderstand the role of government. Through the consent of many people, the government is responsible for the current state of our economy, thanks to the high taxation, regulation (more often favoring a large corporation rather than smaller business) and social programs promising far more than they ever could ever practically provide.

Just ask yourself, with our government spending record amounts of tax dollars. Handing out more unemployment and welfare dollars than ever - more more than any government in the world, by far - shouldn't we be more prosperous than ever?

These booms and bust's don't just... happen. Give up the faith in this idea that government MICROMANAGEMENT is going to save us. The burden of this economy could swiftly be lifted off our shoulders if people would recognize the necessity to strip funding to all unconstitutional programs. We could be prosperous again if we the people would collectively recognize that to fix these problems, small steps can't be taken, but immediate... radical legislative progress that guts the current budget and corporate favoritism and military empire.

Regulation isn't inherently a bad thing - it can be a law we all agree on, however if we look more closely at regulation we usually get, it's often a law that's built to favor a particular party, quite often the larger corporation. Shouldn't the law be equal to all? It is for this reason many of us are against so many regulations, they hurt small businesses, and ultimately the average person.

This isn't about government vs rich as so many people seem to get stuck on. Some of the rich that so many people hate, virtually OWN the government. So why continue to fund their efforts as we have for way too long now?

The constitution for the united states, if we can't agree on that single document, the law of the land that define's the limits of our government's authority...then what hope do we have to agree on anything?

If you ask me, it's pretty clear Apple will update all of its laptops before the holiday season. I personally can't wait to buy a new MB, because my 600 MHz G3 iMac is getting a bit sluggish. My question is this: Will it be a simple CPU upgrade, or will Apple change pricing and/or other hardware (such as HD capacity, RAM, etc.)? Oh, and how long do I have to wait?

They're switching from ASUS to Foxconn so hopefully you'll get a Macbook that doesn't turn off Randomly in the middle of important work.

For a small sum of a $1Billion USD, I volunteer to watch over the innocent children and their purchases. I will smack their little fingers with a a bamboo cane. Suddenly this reminds me of that South Park episode where they started smacking "ADD" kids. "Sit down and study." I think parents need to get caned then schooled into using parental controls

The worst "feature" of Aperture is the high computer requirements. It really is a resource hog for not much reason. LR is becoming very similar with far less system specs.

One NEW feature of 1.5 quoted from Apple.com web site......

Run Aperture on any Intel-based Mac. Any desktop, including Mac mini, iMac, and Mac Pro. Or any notebook, including MacBook and MacBook Pro.

It took a "research firm" to figure this out? I don't know why people were expecting Verizon to get it before T-mobile. All carriers will get it eventually but it makes only sense that the one also using the GSM network will get it first.

If taxation is designed to ween us from foreign oil and clean-up the atmosphere, then a gas tax is perfect. Otherwise, it needs to be based on miles driven somehow (perhaps along with a weight multiplier).

    Hi mstrze,

The system in the UK was altered as a gesture to reducing total carbon dioxide emission. Being the UK it took the car route - big car, must be rich, easy target - rather than loading the fuel price - more votes to be lost making high use small car owners pay their fair share.

Much of the damage here seems to be caused by cable and utility companies, and the weather. Tax the companies plus strict completion time and quality requirements? A lot of bad patch jobs injuring motorcyclists and cyclists, even before they become potholes.

Highway miles? The old chestnut is tolls.

    Cheers,
    OW

And even having read that letter, I'm still opposed to Apple's moves and intentions here. They're still trying to trademark the word "Pod", which I think is utterly farcical.

What you need to keep in mind is that trademarks are not universal. They are trying to trademark usage of the word "Pod" within the arena of digital music players only:

IC 009. US 021 023 026 036 038. G & S: portable and handheld digital electronic devices for recording, organizing, transmitting, manipulating, and reviewing audio files, and peripherals for use therewith; computer software for use in organizing, transmitting, manipulating, and reviewing audio files on portable and handheld digital electronic devices

How "pod" is used in the context of vegetables, spaceship evacuation mechanisms, or whaling is completely irrelevant to any discussion here.

I thought other players were also offering such technology... Hows airplay any different ?

Unless they want to copyright the term "AirPlay"

The difference is Apple get's $4 per device and the manufacturer has a widespread of devices that people already have ready to use with it.

    I say it's a win/win

Ok, so Intel has the Itanium, well they have the Itanium2 I guess if you want to get super current, so what! The Itanium is based on a brand new design that looks good on paper, but Intel will be the first to admit it has not performed as good as they hoped.

Sun, IBM and SGI have had 64bit processors way before Intel. So if you say the Itanium is ok for the high-end consumer, then It's safe to say that a Sun Ultra10 or a SGI Octane would also be a high-end consumer machine.

What makes you so sure that a 16 processor G4 machine would not perform, because of the bus speed. What about super high-end servers like the CM5 or the Cray T3D. I seriously doubt those machines have 500Mhz bus speeds, or DDR memory. I know for a fact that the CM5 had dedicated memory for each processor node, and each node had 2 vector units. If you want, I can find out specifics from my brother, who has actually programmed code for it, when he worked at Las Alamos. Whether a 16 processor G4 machine is relevant or not, it could be built and if built right, would be very fast.

So the .NET family is limited to 32 processors huh....Weak, very weak. You can say what you want, UNIX still scales better than Windows, no matter what the flavor.

In my opinion, Microsoft is beginning to die a slow painful death. Everyone is tired of their ************ and half-assed attempts of secure computing. Everyone always complains that Macs are not open enough, well I think the opposite is true. Apple embraces open standards and even invents and shares them when none exist, while Microsoft shuns and sometimes even steals others work, in a attempt to push their own proprietary formats and stifle progress.

I find it funny that Intel invented USB, but it was Apple that took the leap of faith and pushed it into the mainstream. Apple, in my opinion is the only company thinking "outside the box" and in the end, they will win because of it.

Because now Android with a range of sizes is eating iPhone sales.

Go into a Best Buy and look at all the Androids with larger screens, and some with smaller screens and lower prices. Apple needs to compete with that...

I disagree. Apple doesn't need to compete with that at all. Android is not taking iPhone sales as long as Apple is selling them as fast as they can make them. In fact, the smaller droids are too small and the larger droids are too large. Size is always a compromise and the iPhone is an example of the perfect compromise. Not too small - and not too big - but just right. It works for the vast majority and they don't need other sizes. And for those of you talking about a nano size iPhone - it wouldn't be an iPhone. There are just too many things you would not be able to do. I have had tiny phones and the compromise on usability is not worth it. On the other hand, any larger and the iPhone would just be a small iPad. Too large to carry in your pocket, but not as big as the iPad. Maybe a good thought for a pad, but not for a phone. Most people need to put their phone in a multitude of pockets and jeans pockets are just right for the current iPhone. If it was even a fraction bigger it would be uncomfortable. The devices this guy is hearing rumors about could be a smaller iPad to compete with the new 7inch pads and a smaller ipod between the touch and the nano, which borders on being too small. They eventually need a new ipod form factor to replace the classic. That should already be in the works. Lot's of storage with not so much screen as a touch so you can put your money into storage instead of screen. He's just guessing they are phones.
