Fantastic. Apple should have Thunderbolt across most of their Mac line by the time this comes out on the iPhone 5/iPad 3, and most new PCs will have USB 3.
Super-high-speed syncing, plus possibly external devices due to Thunderbolt's daisy chain ability?
It could make an iPad/iPhone accessories market of Thunderbolt devices that pushes adoption...

I've got a "Cosmos Black" 3DS on preorder.
Somehow managed to bust the cartridge slot on my XL, sadly (cartridges fall out/move around). I thought, rather than paying �140-170 for a new XL (would've had a yellow one), I'll use some left over gift vouchers, trade the XL in (as damaged, obviously), so it now works out that I'm getting a 3DS for just over �90. Can't complain :)
I'm not too bothered about the auto-stereoscopy "3D" feature to be honest (the demo unit in Game gave me a headache after about 10 minutes anyway, thanks to my illnesses :rolleyes: ), but I do like the look of the augmented reality stuff, so I'm a little excited! Plus it means I can play Pok�mon again! :o

this has nothing to do with iPads i suppose but a co-worker and I at lunch yesterday had our iPhones out (me ATT & Co-worker VZW) he could not get any bars and therefore his apps were useless for 3G (we were trying a GPS Map) and I got on and got teh voice commands within 30 seconds. I had 4 bars, he had none. He said his Verizon iPhone was about useless for any service. he had ATT before but the company has a Verizon plan and his phone is company paid...

Try making a new mail in Firefox 2. You will see a pop up window with a tool bar at the top but otherwise blank.
I had the same issue. Do you have Adblock or Adblock Plus running with Firefox? I just disabled Adblock Plus for mac.com and now it works fine.

Its funny that film and film cameras were so difficult to get right, but there was almost no post-processing. Now we shoot computers with lenses attached, get great technical results, yet post-process our photos to death.
I don't think this is entirely true. There was plenty of post processing back in the film days, just look at the works of Ansel Adams. It's just that the typical hobby photographer wasn't the one doing it- he sent his film off to a processing lab where it got developed and "post processed" by the lab technicians. Nowadays, with digital, the hobby photographer does almost all of the post processing himself.
The fundamentals of the process have not changed all that much, just who does them, and where/how.

Unless I misread the report, basically all Target did was remind the studios that the DVD format is in jeopardy and they better get with the times or Target will. And if studios need Target and Wal-Mart to tell them that, they're in more trouble than I ever thought.
Assuming that studio execs have 1/2 a brain, then they must be well aware that the DVD format is obsolete. They must also recognize that digital distribution directly to computers (or TVs), is the one of the next delivery methods. Now, assuming they know this, they sure are doing a lousy job of offering us alternatives. Problem is, Hollywood's had it too good for too long. Complacency breeds laziness. Adapt or die. And it sounds like Target intends to adapt.
That said, the underlining message here is that (like it or not) companies like Apple are driving the distribution bus. We're witnessing a changing of the guard, so to speak. Which is the reason I rate this "rumor" a positive.
Now if we could just get the same kind of revolution in the mobile phone market...

15 inch version.
Price is no problem.
Personally I find 15" just a tad large for real portability.
I know this is me dreaming, but what about a hi-res 14.1" inch version "Pro" version. I think the extra space would allow for a faster CPU/GPU combo. Do that with an IPS screen, TB, and USB 3.0 and I it would hit a sweet spot I think.
But then I have this crazy, unfounded hunch that once Apple finally dumps the optical drive on the Macbooks we'll see hybrid Pro/Air machines that are around .6" thick with an 11", 14", 16"(maybe 18") 16X9 lineup instead of the 13", 15", 17" 16X10 lineup of today. No justification, just a fanboy's hunch.
EDIT: I think the slightly smaller form factor would make it easier to get the "retina" qualified resolutions that Hellhammer mentioned which I could really see Apple pushing in 2011/2012. Look how well the "retina" marketing with the iPhone4 did.

I definitely have to disagree with him. Typing on a touch screen just makes me angry, and that's my primary reason. I can be something like 300%+ more productive on a standard computer than a tablet, period.

Yeah, I'm sure millionaire Cowell really cares. Whoever was the poor winner of the X-factor will be used and spat out by him regardless if he gets to no1 or not.
Simon is an interesting character. He seems to have profited greatly off humiliating people on live television and has a unique position of capturing the attention of people on television, but also the airwaves.

My only gripe that in in a normal year you need to sell 170,000-250,000 records to get Christmas number one, the X-factor single has already passed this mark so unfortunately it looks like more people have been buying it to prevent Rage winning. So Cowell wins either way, no such thing as bad publicity.
Incidentally, I'm not savvy with reality TV (I prefer reality) or FaceSpace Books, I heard Zane Lowe play the song about a week ago and thought, what a classic, I haven't heard that for years and went out and downloaded it. I don't agree with the people saying it's not a good song, in 1992 Tom Morello's guitar playing was groundbreaking and the lyrics ideally suit this chart battle.
But to paraphrase another Rage song, you can't rebel by buying something.

it was a bit embarrassing to say i was queuing for an operating system!
Cah! It is the people who asked who should be embarrassed.
I got there about 5 and about half-way around the block which was good enough to snag a shirt, keyboard and Leopard by about 6.15.
My main purpose in commenting though is to say congrats to Apple on the management of the event, especially the policing of the queue. It was good to see they dealt with pushing in because, let's face it, they get the same money whether you push or not.

In regards to the original question: I'm buying one as soon as it gets Sandy Bridge (as long as the 11" gets at least the 2537M and not the Celeron ULV that intel also makes).
Backlit keyboard would also be super but it's not a dealbreaker for me. I'll only use it for programming, communication and business apps so I don't care what GPU it has, but I could use the extra CPU power for VMWare. I also want it more futureproofed than the current model, I tend to hang on to my stuff for a long time (check my sig ;) )
Built-in 3G would also be an option that I would pay a lot of money for if it were offered.
