That's why we couldn't solve all the admin related issues then. If we had significant volume, we could have had visa re-stamping done in USA and the list goes on.. We need a mass movement to make an impact. They need to get frustrated with the letters and will have to give a press statement that they are reviewing the matter. As long as we can do that. I think we can get DOJ attention. If 5K members send letters 10 times in 2 months, I have no issue, as long as we can annoy them with letters for justice..

Recently I returned after a one month trip to India. At DC airport the CBP secondary inspection officer grilled us rough. First he called my wife and asked why did we leave US. She told that since my parents are old and not in good health we visited them. Then he started asking for documents proving it. And told us that without documents he won't let us enter. He went on to say that AP is only on humanitarian basis and unless CBP officer is satisfied with proof they cannot allow AP holder to enter. Finally after convincing him for another 30 min he let us in.
This was a really shocking experience. Are employment based GC's AP supposed to be treated like humanitarian AP? or was the CBP officer over reacting? Gurus please throw some light.

actually more meaningful campaigns spearheaded by core will make people donate more.
right now some members are saying that the donations being made is for lobbying.
how much does that cost ? how much is needed ..more information is needed.
say if lobbying costs half million and every month we are able to raise 10K ..then it will take 5 - 7 years just to raise that amount
any new campaigns like removal of country limits, campaign for recapture, campaign to make EAD similar to temporary GC will make members donate more and attract new members !! Period.

If our parents stay in US, US economy will improved. We will be buying health insurance and food for them.
We will stop sending money to our native country. All money we earned will be spend here. We will be travelling more. Shopping more. etc.
This will help to improve US economy. I want to see US become super country like how it was when Bill Clinton was president.
We have a great present now. I was impressed by his speech about family value and raising kids together as family. I am sure, we will get help from him.

I have been in USA from 2000 and have been waiting for GC from 2004. Finally last year decided to buy and bought one. When I bought my house my kid was in 3rd grade, decided not to compromise on his education and bought a house in good school district.
All depends on personal situation. I am not considering house as an investment, just a place to live.

Also one thought (on an unrelated note, sorry!) - I see a lot of people on the forum posting about how they finally got their GC's after 10, 12, 15 years. I am really happy for them. Having said that, its not a matter a pride that people have to wait for so long to get GC. In fact it's a matter of shame! And by the way before anyone pounces on me, I take care of all action items that IV recommends :-) I am just saying that I feel bad when people have to wait for 10-15 years for their GC. My opinion is (coming back to our discussion) - I base none of my decisions on my GC process. I bought a house, decided to take a student loan to go back to school, changed my job and hopefully if all goes well, may even take a promotion pretty soon. GC my kiss my you know what. The process will go on on the side, but it won't affect my life in anyway.

The problem here is not the immigration system it is sheer number of people who want to become permanent residents . The queues in Canada and Australia are far far far smaller so the point system works smoothly. The main disadvantage of the point based immigration system is that if the people in the line increase, the points will be immediately be increased so that fewer qualify .Then there will always be people like Lou Dobbs who will say that "potential immigrants will get points only if they make 240K a year and are 25 years of age". The UK is also restricting people by increasing the point based system. Now people who make 35,000 GBP a year do not get any points in the HSMP. The age also has been decreased in HSMP. So the point based system works where the queues are smaller unlike the US. The risks of point based system getting changed everyday are far larger than the US based system , which gives Green cards without any hard and fast numbers like salary , age and qualifications .

If you were not told the correct bill rate, you can recover that money. Simply ask them in writing to show you the contract since you are on 70/30 basis. The written contracts, oral contracts, emails all stand in the court but how will you prove an oral contract? If you have found an offer that meets your expectations just quit. We all make the same mistakes. We spend our time on working out things where they are not working. Just "quietly" without your employer getting a hint, find a job and quit.

Apply on the date your 6 months are left. Use the couple of months before that to follow up with your employer and Lawyer and get all paperwork done and application packet ready. If lawyer or the employer is slow, then one needs to push them since ultimately you are going to be affected and nobody else.

The issue of not getting license despite H1B approvals, and H4s not getting DL is something one can take up as an issue with media and authorities. But just because the person did not bother to get the H1B extended until the last moment cannot be an excuse for relief when we approach the authorities.

Nothing significant is expected from this speech. Most politicians repeat the same 3 things- Secure our borders, provide path to citizenship to millions and welcome best and the brightest. The real question is when they will do the real work on immigration. There have been some discussions on administrative fixes on immigration. However some of these fixes would politically harm democrats in the upcoming elections.
Only when the democratic party weakens things can move forward for the skilled (EB- GC ) folks. Democratic party is never for skilled immigratiion, it is all for illegal masses only.

We need to develop really intelligent strategies considering all the factors. Just throwing out ideas and organizing rallys may not be enough (although needed).
There are a lot of intelligent people on this forum. I think we need to work on our unity, commitment and implementing of strategies.
IV is already doing lot of these but does not seem to be working fast and effective enough.

Trust me my friend, I have seen it happen all the time, from large Telecom firm to Govt., its always there, most of the consultants just doesn't come to know about it, but the cut for the managers is there in some form, almost always. Why do each manager has a specific vendor through whom they want to hire most of the time? What else is the reason for the client to pay the consulting company $180/hr but they won't give 'valueablehurdle' anything more than $50-60/hr?
On a different note, now that NSG approved the waiver, most desi uncles, some of them are also owners of desi consulting companies will claim that they are the father of Nuclear deal. These bastards (sorry for my french) always oppose any GC fix and they tell their favorite congressman/senator (each has atleast one favorite politician for whom they do fund raisers) that gc backlog is not an important issue for the community. India Abroad, Times of India, rediff and other desi portals/newspapers will write 'Oliver North' style stories about these desi uncles knowing well that companies like GE etc put their weight behind the deal as it will create commerce to commerce over $20 billion/yr. But desi uncles/orgs will not stop claiming to be the father of nuclear deal. The fact is, most of these desi uncles made noise not because they wanted to do something for their country of birth, they are doing it because they think that if the nuclear deal passes, they can play middle man for US companies to sell the technology/material to Indian companies/govt. Most of the so called 'united voice of Indian-Americans on the Hill' organization's goal is to make big bucks by playing 'middle man' for companies wanting to sell technology to India. And as always, just as 'valuablehurdle''s client (paying $180/hr) Indian govt. will pay double the cost. These desi companies have squeezed blood of people waiting for gc, but now they think its time to move on to play big game with the big boys. These desi uncles/orgs are going nuclear.... time for Rediff and India Abroad to play Oliver North. Sometimes the line between capitalism and cycle of corruption is extremely blur. The problem is, these desi uncles/orgs claim to be representatives of entire Indian-American community, sometimes the entire immigrant community. They don't know more than 100 people, but they claim to be the leaders of all 2.5 million indian americans. d) A Lawyer (General/immigration)

f) desire to succeed
rest everything is just things which can be arranged
Now specifically when u want to start a company with pending I-485 you want to determine what is that you want to do with it....Process H1's consulting, create products whatever.....
Determine what should be the structure of your company LLC, LLP, C-Corp each one has its own advantage and disadvantage......
find a CPA and register it..... Get the company registered open tax id....if you need a location, find one and sign lease, Open a bank account, Hire people.....an grow your company....:)
