Besides I don't think there is anything AMD can offer Apple right now. The Core archiecture has proven to be faster than the Athlon Opteron one...

I would love to have an Apple display, but I just can't make myselft spend $700 for a 20". I bought a 19" LCD a few months ago for $139. It's also got a 3 year warranty.

Much quicker update than the last one for me.
I think the realistic minimal RAM requirements will move to 4GB with Lion. Installing on an older MacBook with 2GB of RAM has proven that Lion loves RAM and Beachballs :) .
It is fairly stable for a "Beta/Preview" build though and seems to be closer to being ready to ship.

thx god not every one has this attitude ... people were bitching about paying extra for tethering here and NO ONE even argued "but its in the contract BS" and boom, few months later it got changed. just bc something is in a obvs greedy network contract doesnt mean it shouldnt be changed or makes it right.
this "i won't complain cuz i as one can't do anything about it anyway" approach makes me sick
But by not signing you ARE doing something about it: Hitting the provider's bottom line and that, possibly more than anything else, will lead them to make changes.

OK, i dont know if this is a problem, but the URL of the keynote itself happens to contain a spoiler. Could be an issue.

I've been getting some weird redirections at the Australian Apple Store...
Just remembered that of course the Apple Store itself will be down at some stage tonight, so I checked it out. But instead I was redirected to the UK education store page. I tried re-entering the address several times but kept getting redirected to different parts of the UK store.
It's back to normal now, but very odd behaviour nonetheless.
And the Australian iTunes Store is also showing the black screen now. :)

"I am very familiar with the Xbox support scenario, and I can tell you that a call center agent would have no idea about the last IP address of a Xbox Live user. If Microsoft chose to log and aggregate this information, its currently not exposed for any support use. I'd recommend that he call Microsoft and have them disable the Live account, and file an insurance claim for the hardware and cut his losses."

I think the issue with people finding it slow is there lack of understand of what Aperture is actually doing. And also not really knowing how to use Aperture to it's full potential.
Some Mac people are like cat owners - the cat (Apple) is never at fault. :D
Aperture can be very slow, especially on older hardware. I run it on a 1.25GHz Powerbook G4 with 1.5 gigs of RAM. The time required for most actions is acceptable, but none of them are speedy - Lightroom is noticably faster. One action that basically is unusable on my computer - rotating by an arbitrary angle.
I am quite sure I know pretty much exactly what Aperture is doing.
Now when someone reports that the program is dog-slow on a dual-G5, then I'd agree there is something else going on there. But there is a decent range of officially-supported hardware that is, in truth, somewhat underpowered for Aperture. Apple obviously made some decisions regarding the hardware based more on marketing than on the technical specs.
That all said, I am looking forward to trying out 1.5 on my Powerbook! (as soon as I get it back from Apple for yet another in-warranty white-spot LCD replacement... got it in to them 5 days before "our" 3rd anniversary) I think this was a pretty good announcement, and gotta wonder about the unrealistic expectations some people have (WHAT? I'm not sure about what you're saying here, because content producers will still be having to supply the same film in two different formats.
No they won't they can produce their film in whatever format they like because all players would be dual format so it wouldn't matter, they wouldn't even need those fancy hybrid discs

DVD +/- is a writing thing. It's not the same, because people don't care where they get their blank discs from as much.
When it was going on it was a big thing, because a lot of dvd Players would only Play one type of disc so if you recorded to + and your friend had - they would not be able to play it
More simply, I'm curious of who out there needs to burn 30 to 50 GB chunks of data, too large for a dual layer DVD to hold, and why.
I do , I have 140Gb of Photos from my DSLR (and previous digital cameras) putting this on 3 discs rather than 40 discs would be great
I also have 28Gb of music, backing up form itunes to 1 disc rather than 8 would also be useful
External drives are very easy to break beyond repair with osx (3 different NEW external drives, 3 different disk manufacturers disks, and the longest they lasted without dying so badly they needed an RMA was 72 hours) and dvd blueray etc discs take up less space, and you have the possibility of having 3-4 copies.

2. AMD is far superior. Right now Intel is in the lead, but it's not a true lead. For the longest time, AMD had the better architecture. Intel had to do something, so they went back to the P3, tweaked it a little, and added some huge caches, and gave us a CPU modeled after a 6 year old (guessing here) CPU that ran at around the same GHZ speeds, but was faster.
This isn't actually correct (the what Intel did part, superiority is up for grabs). Intel did increase the cache size, but they did a significant overhaul of the chip design. Some details...

I think my disappointment (and that of many others) may stem from the fact that they really didn't come out with anything for me.
TV untethered from a computer + price drop + iTunes movie rentals is interesting. So is Time Capsule. Not earth-shaking enough, though, to make me run to the apple store this instant.
And $20 for iPod touch software. I don't own one, but I'd feel like I got screwed if I did.

EDIT: In other news, rumor has it that Apple and NASA are launching a series of iPhone satellites on December 26th that will support the iPhone-SAT which will have 100MBps speeds with worldwide coverage using a series of Apple-owned satellites and taking the carrier completely out of the equation. There will be no more carrier exclusivity, because there will be no carrier. Apple will sell the phone for $700 unlocked with no monthly service charge, but will require you purchase an annual subscription to MobileMe for $99 for service.

I don't really get this... You already pay fees for the data - why do they care for how you use it?

One of the carriers source of income is data charges. Within that category of data sales is:
1) Data used via smartphone for web access.
2) Data used via tethering your phone & laptop.
3) Data used via a laptop air card bought from the carrier.
When you use method 2 illegally, the carrier loses out on that data sale. It's been like this for years, yet not been a problem as large as it is now.
