Meeting at hindu center in flushing on Sun evenings would not work so well due to the prayers being held during Sun evenings at the temple. I think we should poll people on when it's most conveninent for them to meet and go from there...
and yes prayers do help too but as they say "god helps those who help themselves...so both prayers and actions are needed :)

While we are waiting for GC,What options we have in US ? How to use our time more effectively instead of worrying too much ? This is what we were discussiing. It is indirectly related to immigration.

The object of this thread is straightforward - it is to understand if you as a donor member will contribute more $ (or start contributing!) if you get more regular information updates (weekly?) from Core? I know there was a funding drive in March which led to us meeting the goal of $10,000 (and then some). However, while there has been a new goal of $10,000 created for April, we have made little progress towards that. As someone who contributed $100 the first time round in March, but haven't yet made a contribution towards the April funding drive, I can admit that one of the primary reasons for this is because there has been very limited information shared since then. While I COMPLETELY trust in the fact that the Core team is making every effort humanly possible to further our cause, I am also a member of the human race that by nature seeks information and looks for leadership to be more sharing about progress. I personally believe transparency is a key enabler not just to gaining participation and building momentum, but also to creating innovative solutions to problems by engaging more individuals in the process (borrowing this "leaf" from President's Obama's playbook will be highly beneficial to our casuse)
Let me clarify this is NOT an indication of lack of trust in Core NOR do I believe that there isn't a sincere effort being put in by a whole bunch of dedicated individuals. However, my suggestion is simply an idea to further the cause - would definitely like to hear how the rest of this immigration community feels!

USCIS just seems to be changing rules according to their whims and fancies. They are changing rules according to their convenience. What do these idiots think of themselves? One cannot plan on anything when we are dealing with USCIS. What's good today may not be good tomorrow. Do they expect us to be stuck in the backlogs and wait for years together for them to take their own sweet time to process applications? May be a case of job security for these lazy staff.

So the bill passed the voting ....
but it failed because it was ruled "out-of-order" and hence rejected ...
I dont know why it was ruled out of order ... maybe because it was attached to the defence spending bill so it was not the right place to put in this kind of amendment....
I hope that Yeas mean YES and Nay mean "NO" or I need to get my head examined

My only problem is where will these illegals join the line ("Hope they have to join the line somewhere"). If they join the line at the 140 stage directly ie if they dont require labor certification, then what about the 100s of thousands of people waiting for labor clearance (for example im waiting from Aug 2001).
If they join the line directly at 485 ie if they pass a law saying illegals who have been in this country for 5 years can adjust their status straight away. ie file for 485 right away, what about the guys waiting for labor or 140 with all kinds of wage RFE etcs?

maybe some day in the not too distant future, when the days of bonded H-1b labor end, a person who has lost time and passed up opportunites can actually go to a court and sue DOL and USCIS for damages and opportunity costs.

Some correction. 2 witness, one is a neighbour in another building. We live in 3rd floor, that woman live in 3rd floor on another building, there is one driveway between 2 building! Another witness is from leasing office staff, she claimed just near that area. That "help" is from that damn staff.
We only move to this apartment in 2 ~3 month, and both of us biz traveled lot, so don't think we bother neighbor much. And one of neighbor knew our miserable experience, he and his wife said would volunteer to support us in court if necessary.

Applied for EAD extension on July 08-2008 (expiring on Sep 30-08), less than 90 days. Got a 2 year extension in Mail Aug-14-2008 (Approval date Aug 07-2008).

Friends I need an opinion regarding my wifes situation. She is currently on H4. She was on H1B before some time back which she had stamped in India itself. That H1B expired. She moved back to India. After 5 years now she applied for new H1B and got it in the quota. When the dates advanced we applied for her EAD. We were hoping to get it in 60-70 days. Now its been 75 days at TSC and no signs of approval. She had job offer based on EAD since we thought might as well use that. Now we are thinking she should get her H1B stamped because we dont know when her EAD will get approved. For that do you think going to Canada for stamping is safe. She has a Bachelors degree from India. Or do you think going to India only is thesafe option. Mainly I asked was I did some search and found out that its safest in Canada if you have US/Canadian Degree. Is that true or I am wrong and its safe for everyone. Thanks.

And besides this thread was started by a member and not a moderator or senior IV staff, hence its his personal view so please do not accuse IV of being partial to any particular race or ethnicity.
Please don't draw this fight out of proportion and stay focussed on our mission.
Everyone has the right to speak and if other Nationalities want to wish their fellow countrymen on their festivals they should be allowed to do so. Also, under the same protection of free speech if anyone on the forum does not agree with someone's coments they should be able to rebut and criticise them.

I went thru TSC-EAC-TSC cycle. I did quite a bit of research online :) and found they did approve those cases, if PD is current. So, that shouldnt be a hurdle. Key is make sure you have all the checks are passed and current.

H1b humane-hear my story..it cannot be as inhuman as it can be..(i have written the story in one of the forums before also..)
My PD-Oct 2001..Eb3..My wife RIR-almost making it thru I140when all hell broke loose in our lives...my wife was pregnant and because of stupid gynaecologist..she ended up in hospital with complicated premature preganancy..guess what..as if it was not bad enough..her company got acquired just when she was admitted in hospital...imagine wondering about health insurance when she was kept to bed rest with no mobility allowed..we filed for insurance by mistake..which said that 20% in patient.....we were so shaken that even human resource did not advise us..guess what..baby was born..and it was surmised that baby will have long stay in hosiptal...2-3 months(eventually it was 4 months!)..somwhere around the first month..I realized that her insurance..will rip me off..I called right at the end of the first month..and tried several times to put my wife and baby on my insurance so that i don't end up paying 20%..it was lot of efforts until I found some desi in Blue cross insurance who put the whole family from the first initial month..when normally people get the policy for the following month at that time.

Situation was bad..finally baby was out of hospital and I weathered all with help of Almighty...and now I am so disgusted with system..that I am moving to vancouver...
But I have another pleasant surprise..my boss wants me to work from vancouver and visit office once in a month...I don't know...whether it is possible...stay in vancouver and visit LA for 2 weeks and then go back and still maintain H1 status..

There is you and several other members who I have had a chance to speak to, are going through a tough time in life (both on personal and professional fronts) due to not having a greencard. Such experiences are my motivation to work as a volunteer and core member for IV and do something to solve problems faced by several thousands of people like me. IV is currently the only organization in USA working for the cause of legal high skilled immigrants. This IV forum has brought all of us together on one platform where we can share our views and pain. Members have come up with ideas and helped this community in any way they could. Some members decided to join this effort as core members and pledged more time and effort in order to bring relief to all of us. It is not an easy job. There is nobody else to work on the issues we face. You have yourself seen how the govt. and lawmakers responded to you and still did not do anything when you tried yourself as an individual. When we try to raise such issues collectively as IV, lawmakers do hear us. With greater membership numbers and resources we can certainly do much more to influence them and get the laws changed. Members pls. help us increase our membership and funding so that we can all collectively bring about a change and provide relief to everyone in our community. desibechara, If you have decided to move to Canada, good luck to you and your family.
